Description
Lot 1 High Voltage Electrical Systems Certification Requirement: We envision that this would be suitable at level 7 in the NFQ Course Overview The programme should provide learners with a strong foundation in HV system theory, including AC systems analysis, power grid infrastructure, and equipment such as transformers and switchgear. It also should emphasise critical areas such as safety compliance, safe working practices, and regulatory requirements essential for operating in high-risk HV settings. Learners should be able to develop the ability to analyse, design, and support HV systems, with a focus on grid connection, protection systems, and system reliability. Practical application is required as a core component, with industry-relevant training in installation, testing, commissioning, and fault diagnosis, supported by portfolio-based learning. Suggested Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of this programme, learners should be able to 1. Demonstrate specialised knowledge of high voltage electrical systems, including AC system behaviour, grid infrastructure, and industrial HV applications. 2. Critically evaluate HV grid connection requirements and planning considerations, including regulatory, technical, and environmental constraints. 3. Interpret and apply statutory regulations, industry standards, and compliance requirements relevant to HV safety and system operation. 4. Apply advanced safe working practices in HV environments, including isolation, earthing, switching operations, and permit-to-work systems. 5. Analyse HV electrical systems using appropriate engineering techniques, including load flow, fault analysis, and system performance evaluation. 6. Evaluate the design, operation, and performance of HV equipment, including switchgear and transformers, in industrial and utility contexts. 7. Apply protection system principles, including relay coordination and fault detection, to ensure safe and reliable HV system operation. 8. Plan and assess the installation, testing, and commissioning of HV systems and components in accordance with industry standards. 9. Diagnose faults and implement appropriate maintenance and operational strategies to optimise reliability and performance of HV assets. 10. Demonstrate professional competence by communicating technical information effectively, working independently and collaboratively, and engaging in reflective practice and ongoing professional development.
