Description

The proposed works consist of the construction of a new dual carriageway between Mullingar in County Westmeath to Tomisky (south of Roosky) located in County Longford, a total of approx. 52km in length. The proposed new carriageway will predominantly comprise new offline construction. Reuse of the existing N4 carriageway is proposed at the northern and southern tie ins. The new offline construction will be predominantly located in agricultural land. Works will generally involve earthworks, structures, pavements and drainage works. The purpose of this ground investigation is to establish the ground profile across the site to produce a robust and comprehensive “Factual Report” on ground conditions (including contamination) and inform the design of the following:  The total length of the scheme comprising 52km including cuttings and embankments  37no. structures along its length ranging between small single to three span bridge structures  Side roads including roundabouts for proposed structures  Sustainable urban drainage system (SuDS) including 33no. ponds Of primary interest is the nature and thickness, and engineering parameters of soils and bedrock.
