Following a successful application for funding from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) for a new creative media lab, the University of York is sought competitive tenders for its audio visual (AV) requirements, specifically the supply of surround presentation (360 degree presentation of AV). tenders were received and a winning bidder selected following an evaluation process. In October 2018 XR Stories, an AHRC funded partnership between the University of York, Screen Yorkshire and the British Film Institute as part of the Government’s Industrial Strategy was established to support the screen industries (film, TV, gaming and related interactive media) as they rise to the challenge and opportunity offered by new forms of interactive and immersive storytelling. XR Stories currently supports a portfolio of more than forty projects from across our region that represent business-led R&D partnerships with Yorkshire universities all working to explore the future of storytelling using these new and emerging media forms The University of York will be further supporting R&D in immersive and interactive storytelling through an award of £650k from the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government European Development Fund for the Creative Media Labs project as an extension of XR Stories, starting in July 2020. Creative Media Labs will provide physical space, technical infrastructure and resources to support XR Stories from the centre of York. Creative Media Labs will have a particular focus on overcoming barriers to R&D and innovation in the creative screen industries sector, thereby enhancing the sector’s potential for innovation and ability to engage with the next generation of digital storytelling. The project will see a new immersive and interactive media lab coming online for creative and cultural sector businesses and organisations from the wider Leeds City Region to access state-of-the-art equipment for R&D and innovation activities. This space will be supported by a key R&D team at the lab, aligned with our XR Stories staff, who will assist our regional creative and cultural businesses in addressing technical challenges, and provide access funding once their ideas have been tested. Following a successful application for funding from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) for a new creative media lab, the University of York is inviting tenders to provide, commission, install, and maintain for a period of 3 years, surround presentation equipment and associated software to enable 360 degree surround audio visual presentation within an existing University of York building..
