THE WORKS INVOLVE THE APPLICATION OF A COLD-APPLIED LIQUID ROOFING SYSTEM TO THE EXISTING FAILED METAL PITCHED ROOF. THE SITE IS A HIGH-PROFILE PUBLIC BUILDING SITUATED IN A CONSTRAINED TOWN-CENTER ENVIRONMENT. THE MARKET HALL WILL REMAIN FULLY OPERATIONAL THROUGHOUT THE DURATION OF THE WORKS. THE WORKS SHALL INCLUDE THE PREPARATION AND WATERPROOFING OF THE PARAPET WALL ABUTMENT TO THE CHURCHYARDSIDE AND PEPPER HOUSE GABLES OF THE EXISTING METAL ROOF USING A REINFORCED COLD LIQUID-APPLIED KEMPEROL WATERPROOFING SYSTEM. THE WORKS SHALL INCLUDE: • TEMPORARY REMOVAL OF EXISTING COPING STONES. • PREPARATION OF PARAPET WALL SURFACES. • FORMATION OF A CONTINUOUS KEMPEROL WATERPROOFING UPSTAND. • WATERPROOFING BENEATH COPING STONES. • REINSTATEMENT OF COPING STONES FOLLOWING COMPLETION. • ALL ASSOCIATED DETAILING, SEALING, AND MAKING GOOD. Lot 1: 1. GENERAL A FULL ROOF SURVEY WILL ESTABLISH ANY PROBLEMS THAT EXIST WITH THE EXISTING ROOF. SOME COMMON ISSUES WITH THIS TYPE OF STRUCTURE INCLUDE; • LOOSE FIXINGS AND FASTENERS • CUT END CORROSION OF METAL SHEETS • MISSING PROFILE FILLER PIECES - RIDGE AND EAVES • LEAKING GUTTERS FIXINGS FIXINGS ARE CONSIDEREDTHE MAIN REASON FOR WATER INGRESS IN THIS ROOF. ALLOWING WATER INGRESS. FIXINGS WILL ALSO BE AFFECTED BY RUST AND WILL PROVE DIFFICULT TO TIGHTEN UP. ALL THE FIXINGS SHOULD BE WIRE BRUSHED AND GIVEN INDIVIDUAL TREATMENT IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE COATING MANUFACTURER'S SPECIFICATION. THE NUMBER OF FIXINGS SHOULD ALSO BE CHECKED. FOR ADEQUATACY THE WORK SHALL INCLUDE THE SUPPLY AND INSTALLATION OF THE KEMPEROL LIQUID APPLIED WATERPROOFING SYSTEM TO THE EXISTING METAL PITCH ROOF, AS WELL AS THE LINING OF THE GUTTERS. ALL WORK SHALL BE CARRIED OUT IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE MANUFACTURER'S GUIDELINES AND BRITISH STANDARDS FOR ROOFING SYSTEMS. 2. MATERIALS THE SYSTEM SHALL USE KEMPEROL V 210 M, A COLD LIQUID-APPLIED, SEAMLESS WATERPROOFING SOLUTION. KEMPEROL 500 FLEECE FABRIC: HIGH-STRENGTH, POLYESTER REINFORCEMENT FABRIC TO BE EMBEDDED IN THE RESIN. PRIMER: KEMPERTEC 2 PARTS POLYURETHENE D-PRIMER PART A + B PRIMER SUITABLE FOR METAL SURFACES, ENSURING ADHESION. 3. SURFACE PREPARATION EXISTING METAL ROOF SURFACE SHALL BE CLEANED, DEGREASED, AND FREE FROM DUST, RUST, OIL, AND LOOSE DEBRIS.ANY STRUCTURAL REPAIRS, INCLUDING MINOR RUST TREATMENT OR SEALING HOLES, SHALL BE COMPLETED PRIOR. THE METAL SURFACE MUST BE DRY AND PRIMED WITH THE RECOMMENDED KEMPEROL METAL PRIMER, APPLIED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS. 4. PRIMER APPLICATION APPLICATION SHOULD ONLY TAKE PLACE WHEN THE AIR TEMPERATURE IS +5°C OR GREATER AND THE SUBSTRATE IS +3°C (AND RISING) ABOVE THE DEW POINT. INSPECT THE SURFACE TO BE COATED TO ENSURE IT IS DRY AND FREE FROM CONTAMINATION. APPLY BY BRUSH OR NYLON ROLLER TO SEAL AND CONDITION THE SUBSTRATE 5.WATERPROOFING APPLICATION APPROXIMATELY 2/3 OF THE REQUIRED KEMPEROL® RESIN SHOULD BE APPLIED TO THE PRIMED SUBSTRATE PRIOR TO EMBEDDING THE KEMPEROL® FLEECE. ROLL OUT THE KEMPEROL® FLEECE DIRECTLY INTO THE LIQUID KEMPEROL® WATERPROOFING SYSTEM ENSURING THERE ARE NO FOLDS, CREASES OR AIR BUBBLES, ALLOWING FOR 50MM ON FLEECE OVERLAPS. USE A ROLLER OR BRUSH TO REMOVE ANY AIR BUBBLES AND THEN APPLY THE REMAINING APPROXIMATELY 1/3 OF THE KEMPEROL® WATERPROOFING RESIN WHILE THE FIRST COAT IS STILL WET UNTIL THE FLEECE IS FULLY SATURATED. AVOID ACCUMULATIONS OF MATERIAL. ALL OVERLAPS IN THE FLEECE SHOULD BE FULLY SATURATED TO ENSURE CONTINUITY OF THE SYSTEM AND BE A MINIMUM OF50MM. CONNECTIONSTOTHESURFACEWATERPROOFINGSHOULDBEMADEWITHAMINIMUM100MMOVERLAP. APPLICATION SHOULD ONLY TAKE PLACE WHEN THE AIR TEMPERATURE IS +5°C OR GREATER AND THE SUBSTRATE IS +3°C (AND RISING) ABOVE THE DEW POINT. ENSURE ALL TRANSITIONS, UPSTANDS, AND DETAILING (SUCH AS AROUND FLASHINGS AND GUTTERS) ARE THOROUGHLY SEALED AND REINFORCED. ON VERTICAL SURFACES, WHILST STILL WET OVER-SCATTER WITH KEMPERDUR® NQ0712 KILN-DRIED QUARTZ AT A COVERAGE RATE OF 2KG/M2, TO PROVIDE AN IMPROVED KEY FOR THE WATERPROOFING MEMBRANE. 6. GUTTER LINING THE GUTTERS SHALL BE FULLY PREPARED, CLEANED, AND PRIMED AS PER THE ROOF SURFACE. APPLY THE SAME TWO-COAT KEMPEROL SYSTEM TO ALL GUTTER LININGS, ENSURING A CONTINUOUS SEAL FROM THE ROOF INTO THE GUTTER. INSPECT ALL CORNERS, JOINTS, AND OUTLET POINTS FOR FULL WATERPROOFING COVERAGE. 7. CURING AND PROTECTION ALLOW THE KEMPEROL SYSTEM TO CURE FULLY AS PER MANUFACTURER GUIDELINES BEFORE ANY FOOT TRAFFIC OR EXPOSURE TO WATER. ENSURE THE SURFACE IS PROTECTED FROM MECHANICAL DAMAGE DURING AND AFTER APPLICATION. 8. GUARANTEE THE KEMPEROL SYSTEM SHOULD BE GUARANTEED FOR A MINIMUM OF 20 YEARS AGAINST WATER INGRESS, PROVIDED ALL INSTALLATION STEPS ARE FOLLOWED. 9. HEALTH AND SAFETY ENSURE ALL PERSONNEL FOLLOW THE SAFETY GUIDELINES WHEN WORKING ON A PITCHED METAL ROOF, INCLUDING HARNESSES AND EDGE PROTECTION.PROVIDE SAFETY MEASURES TO PREVENT SLIPS AND FALLS DURING APPLICATION 2. PARAPET WALL AND COPING STONES CHURCHYARD GABLE 1. SCOPE OF WORKS THE WORKS SHALL INCLUDE THE PREPARATION AND WATERPROOFING OF THE PARAPET WALL ABUTMENT TO THE CHURCHYARDSIDE AND PEPPER HOUSE GABLES OF THE EXISTING METAL ROOF USING A REINFORCED COLD LIQUID-APPLIED KEMPEROL WATERPROOFING SYSTEM. THE WORKS SHALL INCLUDE: • TEMPORARY REMOVAL OF EXISTING COPING STONES. • PREPARATION OF PARAPET WALL SURFACES. • FORMATION OF A CONTINUOUS KEMPEROL WATERPROOFING UPSTAND. • WATERPROOFING BENEATH COPING STONES. • REINSTATEMENT OF COPING STONES FOLLOWING COMPLETION. • ALL ASSOCIATED DETAILING, SEALING, AND MAKING GOOD. 2. EXISTING CONSTRUCTION THE EXISTING ROOF COMPRISES PROFILED METAL SHEETING ABUTTING A MASONRY PARAPET WALL WITH STONE COPING UNITS ABOVE. THE EXISTING ARRANGEMENT SHALL BE INSPECTED PRIOR TO COMMENCEMENT TO IDENTIFY: • LOOSE OR DEFECTIVE MASONRY. • FAILED POINTING OR CRACKED COPING STONES. • AREAS OF CORROSION OR DEFECTIVE FLASHINGS. ANY DEFECTIVE SUBSTRATE SHALL BE REPAIRED PRIOR TO APPLICATION OF THE WATERPROOFING SYSTEM. 3. REMOVAL OF COPING STONES CAREFULLY REMOVE EXISTING COPING STONES TO THE FULL LENGTH OF THE PARAPET WHERE KEMPEROL WATERPROOFING IS TO BE INSTALLED. STORE COPING STONES SAFELY FOR REUSE WHERE SUITABLE. REPLACE ANY DAMAGED OR FRACTURED COPING STONES WITH MATCHING UNITS. REMOVE EXISTING MORTAR BEDDING AND CLEAN THE EXPOSED PARAPET SURFACES. CARE SHALL BE TAKEN TO AVOID DAMAGE TO ADJACENT MASONRY AND ROOF COVERINGS. 4. SURFACE PREPARATION MECHANICALLY CLEAN ALL PARAPET SURFACES TO REMOVE DIRT, LOOSE MATERIAL, BIOLOGICAL GROWTH, FAILED COATINGS, AND CONTAMINANTS ABRADE AND CLEAN ADJACENT METAL ROOF SURFACES TO PROVIDE A SUITABLE KEY. PRIME ALL SUBSTRATES WITH THE APPROPRIATE KEMPEROL PRIMER IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE MANUFACTURER'S RECOMMENDATIONS SUBSTRATES MUST BE DRY, SOUND, AND FREE FROM STANDING WATER BEFORE APPLICATION. 5. KEMPEROL UPSTAND WATERPROOFING APPLY KEMPEROL REINFORCED LIQUID WATERPROOFING CONTINUOUSLY FROM THE ROOF SURFACE AND EXTEND VERTICALLY UP THE PARAPET WALL. * THE WATERPROOFING SHALL: EXTEND TO THE FULL HEIGHT OF ALL PARAPET WALL SECTIONS AND CONTINUE OVER THE TOP OF THE PARAPET BENEATH THE COPING STONES TO PROVIDE A CONTINUOUS WATERPROOF BARRIER. BE FULLY REINFORCED USING KEMPEROL FLEECE EMBEDDED WITHIN WET RESIN. BE DRESSED NEATLY AROUND ALL JOINTS, CORNERS, AND TERMINATIONS. THE COMPLETED SYSTEM SHALL PROVIDE A SEAMLESS WATERPROOF MEMBRANE WITH NO EXPOSED LAPS OR JOINTS. 6. COPING STONE REINSTATEMENT RE-BED COPING STONES ON FRESH MORTAR BEDDING FOLLOWING COMPLETION AND CURING OF THE KEMPEROL SYSTEM. ENSURE COPING STONES ARE LAID TO CORRECT FALLS TO SHED WATER AWAY FROM THE WALL FACE. FORM JOINTS USING APPROPRIATE EXTERIOR-GRADE POINTING MORTAR. AVOID MECHANICAL DAMAGE TO THE COMPLETED KEMPEROL MEMBRANE DURING REINSTATEMENT WORKS. WHERE REQUIRED, INSTALL SEPARATION/PROTECTION LAYERS BETWEEN THE MEMBRANE AND BEDDING MORTAR IN ACCORDANCE WITH MANUFACTURER RECOMMENDATIONS. 7. DETAILING AND TERMINATIONS PARTICULAR ATTENTION SHALL BE GIVEN TO: INTERFACES BETWEEN METAL ROOF SHEETS AND MASONRY. ENDS OF PARAPET RUNS. RAINWATER DISCHARGE POINTS AND GUTTER INTERFACES. ALL DETAILING SHALL BE COMPLETED USING COMPATIBLE KEMPEROL COMPONENTS TO MAINTAIN SYSTEM INTEGRITY. 8. PROTECTION AND COMPLETION PROTECT COMPLETED WORKS FROM DAMAGE AND FOOT TRAFFIC UNTIL FULLY CURED. REMOVE DEBRIS AND SURPLUS MATERIALS FROM SITE. LEAVE ALL GUTTERS AND RAINWATER OUTLETS CLEAN AND FULLY OPERATIONAL. 9. GUARANTEE THE COMPLETED KEMPEROL WATERPROOFING INSTALLATION SHALL BE ELIGIBLE FOR A MANUFACTURER-BACKED GUARANTEE, SUBJECT TO INSTALLATION BY AN APPROVED CONTRACTOR AND COMPLIANCE WITH THE MANUFACTURER'S SPECIFICATION. PROJECT SPECIFICATION: UPPER LEVEL MASONRY REMEDIALS 1. SCOPE OF WORK THE WORKS COMPRISE THE LOCALIZED REPOINTING AND BRICK REPLACEMENT TO THE HIGH-LEVEL PARAPET, PEDIMENT, AND ASSOCIATED TRIANGULAR AND HORIZONTAL GABLES. THIS INCLUDES: CAREFUL REMOVAL OF FAILED OR NON-BREATHABLE (CEMENTITIOUS) MORTAR. REPLACEMENT OF PERISHED OR "BLOWN" BRICKS TO MATCH THE EXISTING BOND AND CHARACTER. APPLICATION OF NEW LIME-BASED MORTAR TO THE HIGH-LEVEL ELEVATIONS. 2. MATERIALS AND MATCHING BRICKS: ANY REPLACEMENT UNITS MUST MATCH THE EXISTING IN DIMENSIONS, COLOR, TEXTURE, AND COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH. GIVEN THE "PERISHED" NATURE MENTIONED, RECLAIMED OR HANDMADE BRICKS SHOULD BE SOURCED TO ENSURE A SEAMLESS BLEND WITH THE 19TH-CENTURY FABRIC. MORTAR MIX: A NATURAL HYDRAULIC LIME (NHL 3.5) MIX IS RECOMMENDED TO ALLOW FOR MOISTURE MOVEMENT AND BREATHABILITY. RATIO: TYPICALLY 1:2.5 OR 1:3 (LIME:AGGREGATE). AGGREGATE: WELL-GRADED SHARP SAND, COLOR-MATCHED TO THE EXISTING WEATHERED JOINTS. SAMPLES: A 1M² SAMPLE AREA OF REPOINTING AND A SAMPLE OF REPLACEMENT BRICKS MUST BE APPROVED ON-SITE BEFORE FULL COMMENCEMENT. 3. PREPARATION AND EXECUTION RAKING OUT: JOINTS MUST BE RAKED OUT MANUALLY OR USING SPECIALIZED OSCILLATING TOOLS TO A MINIMUM DEPTH OF 20MM (OR TWICE THE JOINT WIDTH). STRICTLY NO USE OF ANGLE GRINDERS, WHICH RISK DAMAGING THE BRICK ARRISES. CLEANING: JOINTS MUST BE BRUSHED CLEAN AND PRE-WETTED WITH DEIONIZED WATER TO PREVENT THE MASONRY FROM "SUCKING" MOISTURE OUT OF THE NEW MORTAR TOO QUICKLY. LAYING & POINTING: * NEW BRICKS MUST BE LAID TO MATCH THE EXISTING FLEMISH OR ENGLISH BOND (AS APPLICABLE TO THE SPECIFIC SECTION). MORTAR SHOULD BE FIRMLY "IRONED" INTO THE JOINTS. FINISH: A "RECESSED" OR "FLUSH" FINISH (TO BE CONFIRMED BY SAMPLE) THAT IS LIGHTLY BRUSHED BACK AS IT REACHES ITS INITIAL SET TO EXPOSE THE AGGREGATE AND AVOID A "FATTY" LIME FINISH.
