Description

The objective of the SURF technology/instrument and probes is research and development for several clinical projects at St Olavs Hospital, FOR-NorMIT (the Norwegian Centre for Minimally Invasive Image Guided Therapy and Medical Technologies), such as: — Atherosclerosis in carotid arteries (1/3 of all types) — Detection of cancer in livers, pancreas, ovaries, chests and thyroids. — The development of several SURF probes for laparoscopic surgery and improved guidance in connection with resecting liver tumours may also be relevant. — The probes shall be integrated with the existing BK5000. This will be followed by a SW development for ~ ½ year, with necessary clinical adaptation. This means that the equipment shall be clinically functional by Medio 2017. The technology shall form the basis for scientific works towards: — 1 postdoctoral researcher; — 2 PhDs; — 5 master degree students.
