Description

The Department of Geography is seeking to purchase a Particle size and shape analyser. The system will be used to analyse the size and shape of volcanic ash particles, data of which will be used to reconstruct the scale and style of pre-historic volcanic eruptions. The particle size and shape analyser should provide accurate morphological information (e.g., size, shape, density) for volcanic ash (tephra). Accurate particle size measurements are essential for those grains between 0.1 µm – 2000 µm. The measurement using wet dispersion of particles is essential, while the measurement of dry sample is desirable. Wet dispersion data acquisition is essential with low volume samples, potentially as low as 10s of mg of sample. NOTE: The authority is using eTenderwales to carry out this procurement process.
