Description

Through this project algorithms developed within UL for real-time estimation of a geostationary satellite position will be implemented and tested in a satellite modem platform facilitating the transfer of a 1 PPS (pulse per second) time signal with at least microsecond accuracy between remote locations over satellite. The overall system will consist of ground master stations deploying a specially programmed satellite modem capable of two-way (uplink/downlink) communication supplying timing via geostationary satellite to one-way (downlink only) slave receivers. The approach developed at UL is simple enough to allow real-time computation while being good enough to provide sufficient data to minimise the error on the time signal as received at the slave stations. The project has as goal to develop a product envisaged as the first off-the-shelf system allowing users to receive a high-quality accurate time signal as an alternative to GPS and providing microsecond or sub- microsecond accuracy
