Description

As part of the LU Track Programme, the aim is to improve the condition of track, by unlocking efficiencies in the track replacement process. A potential technical solution has been identified as a Mechanised Renewal Vehicle (MRV). A supplier will be required to present a design that will allow for the installation of plant on 3 refurbished wagons supplied by LU. The MRV will need to achieve the following outputs: — higher output of track renewal per shift, — faster mobilization of materials/tools to site, — faster setup time, — improved health and safety, and — reduced cost per metre of renewed concrete. The MRV will be hauled and powered by the LU battery locomotive. At Transport for London's discretion an option has been included to have the manufacturer upgrade certain aspects of the completed MRV (post trials) to initiate an incremental improvement through development of enhanced equipment to achieve MRV Configuration 2. Current process is labour intensive, therefore our aim is to improve health and safety of the workforce as well unlock further efficiencies in the track replacement process. At Transport for London's discretion an option has been included to have the manufacturer upgrade certain aspects of the completed MRV (post carrying out track renewal trials) to initiate an incremental improvement through development of enhanced equipment for spoil recovery, concrete production, staff welfare, and track support, to achieve MRV Configuration 2. This is due to minimise the required mobilisation costs and any losses in transfer of knowledge if the upgrade works was to be awarded to a different manufacturer.
