Preparatory Work for the Development of Risk Assessment Guidance for Gene Drive Modified Insects

The aim of this call is to gather and assess the necessary information to fill the gaps in existing risk assessment guidelines for genetically modified animals (GMAs) previously identified by EFSA and provide recommendations on aspects to consider for the potential development of additional guidance for the risk assessment of GDMIs for deliberate release into the environment. This call focuses on the use of engineered gene drives in disease-transmitting insects, primarily mosquitoes, agricultural insect pests and non-native invasive insects for deliberate release into the environment. The outcome of the proposed activities would allow EFSA to better prepare for future challenges in risk assessment of GDMIs. The project has an overall duration of 2 years and is divided into five broad objectives.
