23/00947 Hire of a purse seine coastal vessel for experiments - mackerel sturgeon - autumn 2023

Description

The Institute of Marine Research (the Contracting Authority) would like to hire one coastal vessel to experiment with live storage, catch control, technology development and fish welfare in seine fishing of mackerel sturgeon. Lot 1: The experiments are to be carried out in connection with the project Sustainable catch and live storage of mackerel sturgeon in Norway, which is funded by the Institute of Marine Research and the Norwegian Seafood Research Fund (Norwegian: FHF). The main objective of the project is to develop methods for sustainable capture and live storage of mackerel sturgeon. The project is divided into three work packages (Norwegian AP) with the following sub-objectives: - Knowledge acquisition from countries that have established routines for live storage of mackerel sturgeon and mapping of national and international usable technologies both (Norwegian: AP1). -Apply acoustic and visual methods for early identification, quantification and monitoring of mackerel sturgeon behaviour during capture, transmission and live storage (Norwegian: AP2). - Develop tools and monitoring methodologies that provide good fish welfare and increase the quality of mackerel sturgeon meat during capture, transfer and storage (Norwegian: AP3). The winning company must collect the transport mooring and install the small mesh panel in Manger before the experimental period. The costs of the renovation of the seine will be covered by the Contracting Authority.
