Description
Swansea University Medical School (SUMS) is part of the newly restructured Faculty of Medicine, Health & Life Science (FMHLS) at Swansea University and have just purchased an automated observation chamber designed for high throughput movement tracking of zebrafish larvae and other small organisms. This equipment will be used for studies related to drug discovery, behavioural genetics and neuroscience, and toxicology. Swansea University Medical School has completed a formal open process tender to purchase this automated observational screening equipment which will be capable of taking high-speed, high-resolution images with no distortion of animals in a multiwell plate. The system will be accurately temperature controlled with programable protocols and will include the function to assess the alertness of the animals e.g. a device for producing vibrations such as a sound or taping device. The system will also have the capacity for tracking multiple animals, allowing for analysis of social interaction and be capable of tracking animals in the dark. As a shared piece of equipment, the system will ideally be able to track other small animals. The provision will include user-friendly software which, ideally, is compatible with other tracking systems currently available.
