As part of the 389 000 000 GBP Tyne and Wear Metro Asset Renewal Plan to modernise the system between 2010 and 2021, Nexus have awarded a Design and Construct Bridge Renewal package of works. The works are located on 1 bridge on the Nexus rail corridor between Longbenton and South Gosforth. The existing structure is to be demolished in its entirety and replaced with a new structure. Full closure of the Metro system in the vicinity of the bridge is required, (this includes closing the carriageway for long periods) during demolition and construction.
