The Seabird populations programme, SEAPOP 2023

Description

Miljødirektoratet [the Norwegian Environment Agency] intends to enter into a contract with Norsk institutt for naturforskning (NINA) [the Norwegian Institute for Nature Research] regarding partial financing of the Seabird populations programme SEAPOP. The contract will be signed with NINA, the coordinator of the programme, but the work will be carried out by two institutions: NINA and Norsk Polarinstitutt (NP) [the Norwegian Polar Institute]. The contract is for 2023. The budget is NOK 14.282 million. Moreover, NOK 1.8 million from the Wildlife Fund shall be included in the contract. Lot 1: The programme includes a comprehensive and long-term monitoring and mapping programme for Norwegian seabirds along the Norwegian coast, in Svalbard and in associated sea areas, and will acquire and maintain basic knowledge about seabirds to contribute to better management of these marine environments. Particular focus is on obtaining data that enables models to be made on the effects of human interventions and the separation of these from what is primarily due to natural variations.
