Description
Public health practitioners are those people in the public health workforce who spend much or all of their time in public health practice working at a minimum of level 5 or equivalent of the PHSKF (Public Health Skills and Knowledge Framework). They may work across the full breadth of public health from health improvement and health protection, to health information, community development, and nutrition, in a wide range of settings from local government and the NHS to the voluntary, and private sector. Regulation and registration of the workforce provides assurances to the employer and the public of the practitioner’s competencies along with supporting the individual to gain formal recognition within a profession, supporting career development. The Public Health Practitioner (PHP) programme is a professional development programme which allows individuals working in public health to become a registered Practitioner with the UKPHR. Public Health Practitioner registration is at Level 5/6 of the Public Health Skills and Knowledge Framework (PHSKF). The Public Health Practitioner Schemes are delivered as local schemes within specific geographic areas. The Wessex scheme (see appendix 1) is funded by Health Education England - Wessex and is managed and delivered by the Wessex School of Public Health. The Wessex region covers Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Dorset and Salisbury. The scheme was established in 2010 and since then has supported over 100 practitioners to work towards professional registration. The Wessex support programme is a fundamental aspect of the public health practitioner scheme which enables individuals to develop their portfolio for registration. Following the independent evaluation of the scheme, learning from this has informed the development of this specification. This procurement is for the delivery of two cohorts over 2016/17 and 2017/18. Please note provider MUST be: • The main provider will be current and active UKPHR accredited Assessor or Verifier. • All group facilitators will have received UKPHR Assessor training ensuring they have an understanding of the assessment process. • Working knowledge of UKPHR standards, indicators and process for the registration of PH Practitioners.
