Archaeology at Southampton has a lively and welcoming atmosphere. Ranked 29th in the world for Archaeology (QS World University Rankings, 2019) and 3rd for research power in the UK (REF, 2014), we have an international reputation as one of the leading centres for the study of archaeology, with high profile research projects carried out all over the world. Our syllabus covers the span of human history, from the emergence of our species to debates about the role of archaeology in contemporary society. Our staff are involved in archaeological fieldwork and investigations that feed into all our teaching.
