To identify actions for local supply chain development, including scoping thepotential for an initiative for Wales, similar to the Association of Scottish HardwoodSawmillers (ASHS) , to benefit local businesses including farmers and smallwoodland owners, foresters, local sawmillers and furniture makers.• Undertake a desk top review of existing data and prepare gap analysis.• Compile availability and volumes of timber in Wales and the volumes sold annually.• List the active sawmills in Wales.• Assess the value-added operations of sawmills.• Map the flow of timber harvested in Wales by species through the supply• chain• Detail challenges of small mills• Assess the sawmill waste/by-product sales and assess the potential for higher value use• Explore the potential for setting up a Welsh equivalent of the Association• of Scottish Hardwood Sawmillers• Explore potential opportunities for development of the local timber supply• chain
