Provision of Winter Cover Care Beds - Sandwell & West Birmingham CCG

Sandwell and West Birmingham CCG seek expressions of interest from suitably qualified organisations for a total of 30 beds to provide winter cover across the West Birmingham and Sandwell area. Sandwell and West Birmingham CCG intend to purchase the required beds on a block basis. It is an advantage for homes to be within, or in reasonable proximity to, Sandwell and West Birmingham’s boundaries in order to maintain ease of access to homes for patients and their families. A map showing the CCG’s boundaries can be found here: http://www.sandwellandwestbhamccg.nhs.uk/practice-map. The contract will be for a period of 6 months commencing in November 2013. It is anticipated that beds may need to be commissioned from a number of providers in order that the required capacity is fulfilled. The 30 winter beds will be for patients who require:- • Step up from community to avoid an acute admission • step down from hospital to provide an interim nursing bed for a short period of time until a longer term bed is found. • Step down from hospital for patients who need on-going intensive therapy but are medically fit for discharge from hospital. Therapy services will be In reach and commissioned separately. The CCG will commission GP cover for these beds once the 6 month contracts are awarded. The CCG is seeking expressions of interest by 5th September 2013 at 12 noon. Following the receipt of expressions of interest, it is the intention of the CCG to issue tender documents to all interested providers. The CCG anticipates that tender documents will be issued on or around 6th September. Please note that expressions of interest received after the closing date will not be considered.
