Summary of the work Will be responsible for managing the build and deployment of the project, through all environments. They will contribute to key components and shared common services, undertake cross-functional engineering projects, working in small teams with other engineers in different knowledge spheres, building supportable, sustainable and reliable services. Specialist role Developer Expected Contract Length 24Months total-Initial 12months-further period up to 12months depending on business need&performance Latest start date Monday 7 January 2019 Who Speclialist Work With Specialist will be part of Public Protection Directorate Project team working closely with the Technical Lead. We expect the specialist to work collaboratively with existing in house project teams that are transforming the HMPO business processes/applications. What Specialists Work On Build Dev environment, configure infrastructure so system engineer skills required. System provisioning & automation, monitoring, metrics, scalability, security and hardening. Overall responsibility for the projects Linux infrastructure in relation to common standards. Responsible for the health and upkeep of the critical services. Active on remediating any knowledge gaps between Developers and Operations Engineers. Automation of Linux, providing frictionless access to services to the rest of the Engineering organisation. Working alongside other engineers, providing the code, services and knowledge to deliver a smooth automation process from the start to the end of the project lifecycle. Working within security architecture guidelines. Skills & Experience • Knowledge and experience of installation and management of hardware (servers, storage, routers etc.) • Knowledge of and experience with Docker, Postgres, and installation and management of the CoreOS • Knowledge of and experience with Git, Github, Gitlab • Knowledge of and experience with nginx, HAProxy, Unicorn • Reasonable fluency in at least one of: python, go, BASH • Knowledge of HIDS, NIDS and security hardening • Deep knowledge of GNU/Linux • Experience of IP Networking and physical networks • Experience of designing and building the infrastructure in a data centre. Nice to Haves • Experience deploying, profiling, and debugging distributed systems • Ability to operate in small cross-functional engineering teams to build supportable, sustainable, and reliable services • Solid understanding of CI and build engineering • Understanding of cloud concepts • Fluent in English and have good communication skills in order to discuss high level requirements with stakeholders, as well as have low level technical discussions as required. • Knowledge of configuration management tools (Puppet/Ansible) • SkyDNS / Bi • Quay.io / Artifactory • Experience of configuring and managing ELK • Ceph / Glusterfs • CoreOS: Fleet / Etcd / Flannel / RKT • SysDig / Graphite / Prometheus • HAProxy • Ruby, Go • SQL / NO-SQL DB’s • Have existing, valid DV Work Location Her Majesty's Passport Office, based in Victoria, Westminster and Croydon, with occasional travel across the UK. Working Arrangments We expect the specialist to work collaboratively with existing in house project teams that are transforming the HMPO business processes/applications. Service design and development must align with the HM Passport Office strategic technical architecture and technologies Work is based in London and will involve the supplier being on site 5 days per week to work collaboratively with HMPO teams. Travel to regional sites to be agreed, expenses incurred from travel outside of the M25/Greater London will be subject to H.M. Passport Office Travel and Subsistence Policy. Security Clearance DV Clearance is required. HM Passport Office will support the clearance process. Additional T&Cs Breakpoints to assess progress and quality will be set by mutual agreement. We expect this engagement to be outside IR35; however status is assessed on a case-by-case basis. Standard Government Terms and Conditions for Expenses as covered in the DOS Contract. We expect this engagement to be outside IR35, however status is assessed on a case-by-case basis. 2. Is there a current incumbent? There is no incumbent in post. This is a new role. 3. What is the daily rate for this role? The maximum day rate has been left blank intentionally, we will assess the day rate for suppliers using the evaluation weighting we have disclosed on the requirements. 4. As there are 25 skills and experiences that suppliers must provide a example to, there are 2,500 words expected in total for the application. Inevitably this will put off a large number of suitable candidates from applying. Will you also be requesting CV's for the position along side the responses? No. CV's will only be requested from suppliers who are invited to interview. 5. With regards to the DV Clearance to confirm the HM Passport Office will sponsor the clearance process? Yes. DV Clearance is required for this role. HM Passport Office will support the clearance process.
