Buyer
Description
Met Éireann (MÉ) is seeking tenders for a multi-disciplinary consultant team to: Appoint and monitor specialist contractors to carry out design and planning works for weather sites across the country. A multi-disciplinary team of professionals are needed to carryout site investigations, selection of one site per region from a shortlist, design of site and radar tower to meet specific radar needs, and progress to the receipt of planning approval for new weather radar location at each region. The radar team at Met Éireann have assessed sites across the country and shortlisted three sites in each region, which meet their requirements. Met Éireann, a line Division of the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage (DHLGH), is the National Meteorological Service of Ireland. Met Éireann owns and operates the national weather radar network, which currently consists of two weather radars, one located at Dublin Airport and one at Shannon Airport. Following an assessment of the spatial coverage and suitability of the current national weather radar network and of future requirements for the network, Met Éireann commenced a project to install four new weather radars at strategic locations around the country. These changes will provide an improved weather service to the Irish public, allowing for better severe weather detection, and support Met Éireann’s current weather forecasting service and the in-development national flood forecasting capabilities.
