The aim is to develop a National Competency Framework for Healthcare/Patient Safety Complaints Advocacy and to train those delivering Healthcare/Patient Safety Complaints Advocacy in Ireland. The aim is to develop a National Competency Framework for Healthcare/Patient Safety Complaints Advocacy and to train those delivering Healthcare/Patient Safety Complaints Advocacy in Ireland. The objectives are: 1) Scope the current education and competency frameworks for healthcare/ patient safety complaints advocacy both national and international, including information on training and its delivery. 2) Based on 1 above, develop a national competency framework for healthcare/patient safety complaints advocacy for those working in various health care settings and for advocacy groups. Please note the resulting competencies should be responsive to health service developments in an environment of rapidly changing scientific knowledge, high patient expectations and increasingly sophisticated health care delivery systems. They should be dynamic and flexible to allow for changes in health care delivery, the development of evidence-based professional practice and be responsive to educational, health, social and economic change. 3) Develop training courses based on the national competency framework and deliver it to healthcare professionals and advocacy groups. 4) Evaluate the training courses and amend both it and the competency framework, based on the evaluation. 5) The National Competency Framework and training must be developed in line with the Department of Health’s Patient Safety Complaints and Advocacy Policy (in development).
