Kent County Council require a contractor to assess the veteran and ancient trees within the proposed ‘super’ National Nature Reserve (SNNR); this assessment will be taken forward by appropriately qualified and skilled individuals and include: full surveys, individual management plans for 10 years and identifying future veterans that can be nurtured by landowners. The proposed SNNR contains 18 separate sites with at least 16 different owners. Phase 1 of this work included walk over surveys to approximate the number of veteran trees in the area and their locations. A copy of this report can be found within the RFQ document. The proposed SNNR is in North Kent in the parishes of Cobham, Cuxton, Shorne and Luddesdown. It includes, but is not necessarily limited to, the following sites and partner organisations (in brackets): • Shorne Woods Country Park (Kent County Council) • Camer Park and West Park (Gravesham Borough Council) • Ashenbank Wood (Woodland Trust) • Ranscombe Farm (Plantlife) • Cuxton and Cobham Woodland Project (West Kent Downs Countryside Trust) • Cobham Woods (National Trust) • Silverhand Estate (MDCV UK) The habitats present include ancient woodland, wood pasture and chalk grassland.
