Description

The financial support for this equipment was offered by the University to the School of Engineering in response to the latest IET accreditation visit (July 2018) during which the School was advised to enhance its Electrical engineering laboratories with up-todate equipment. In addition, the School will be introducing a new programme leading to the MEng/BEng (Hons) in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. This will be introduced as an accelerated (two/three years) programme in Sept 2020 and as a full-time (3/4 years) in Sept 2021 and this equipment will also support the delivery of these programmes. Description: The request includes several items of specialised educational equipment that can be summarised in the following descriptions. A full listing of the planned purchase is attached to this document. Renewable Energy: The kit will allow the School to develop new modules on renewable energy and the kit includes solar electric and wind training systems which will be used for both under- and graduate modules. Control and Instrumentation: The kit includes equipment that is needed to support the teaching of modules covering control engineering and electronic instrumentation. Electrical machines: The School currently lacks modules on electrical machines and this kit will facilitate the development and delivery of current and new modules in this fundamental area of Electrical Engineering. Power Electronics: The demand for power electronic engineers is very high in the UK and this kit will allow the School to enhance its teaching in this area. Digital and Analogue Electronics and Communications: This kit allows the School to provide students with practical skills in the areas of basic electrical and electronic circuits and modern communications principles. It will support existing modules as well as new modules which are being developed for the new proposed programmes.
