Rothesay Pier Settlement – Phase 2 Works (Existing Retaining Wall – Toe Construction)
Published
Description
Settlement has occurred behind the existing quay wall, specifically to the backfill of the old masonry pier over an approx. length of 120m at Rothesay Pier. The 1st phase of work, completed in 2019, consisted of the installation of a 5.6m high scour screen along the length to reduce thrust and wave action against the wall and protect and prevent further deterioration of the masonry wall. This contract (Phase 2) aims to address the settlement and prevent sliding failure of the wall by constructing a new toe at the base of the existing wall to resist sliding moments and prevent further release of fines from behind the original sea wall.
