Description

This service will facilitate the timely review of all patients who are in receipt of continence appliances by either a stoma or continence specialist nurse advisor. This model has been used in other parts of the country and made the following benefits: — Improving quality of life for patients with continence and stoma conditions. E.g. patients being housebound due to poor incontinence equipment or outdated methods. — Reducing repeat prescribing for equipment that patients do not want or use. — Ensuring appropriate usage of equipment, e.g. patients using intermittent catheters for up to two years that should have stopped 1-2 weeks post-surgery. — Minimising waste through inappropriate quantities being prescribed. This notice is to advise of the Commissioners’ intention to award a contract to Convatec Ltd and BD Ltd to enable a pilot scheme for a Stoma and Continence Care Prescribing service for 12 months duration starting 1.8.2018. The pilot will to allow the Commissioners’ to test the service, develop and articulate a model for the provision of Stoma and Continence Care Prescribing. The outcome of the pilot will determine the procurement route. If appropriate this opportunity will be advertised later this year. This project will support GPs and primary care clinicians by providing expert continence and stoma care clinical support for that specific group of patients. In addition the project will incur zero financial cost to the CCG as Appliance Usage Reviews are a nationally contracted service that is not being effectively utilised locally.
