Description

South Reading MRT is a series of bus priority measures on the A33 corridor between Mereoak Park and Ride and Reading town center. The scheme will reduce congestion and journey times, improve the attractiveness of public transport through enhanced frequency and reliability, and enable sustainable economic and housing development on the main growth corridor into Reading. The scheme comprises of carriageway widening works to accommodate the new MRT (bus) southbound lane and associated and proposed foot way / cycleway on the A33. Work includes but is not limited to new road construction, alterations to the surface water drainage, street lighting, statutory utilities diversions, road restraint systems, sheet piling and the addition of a new northbound bus stop lay-by. Traffic signal upgrades are also proposed at the A33 Island Road Junction and A33 Bennet Road Junction. Furthermore, the works also include the relocation of a northbound bus lane and the addition of a southbound bus stop. The scheme comprises of carriageway widening works to accommodate the new Mass Rapid Transport (MRT/ bus Lane) southbound lane and associated and proposed footway/cycle way on the A33. Work includes but is not limited to new road construction, alterations to the surface water drainage, street lighting, statutory utilities diversions, road restraint systems, sheet piling and the addition of a new northbound bus stop lay-by. Traffic signal upgrades are also proposed at the A33 Island Road Junction and A33 Bennet Road Junction. Furthermore, the works also include the relocation of a northbound bus lane and the addition of a southbound bus stop. Elements of work will include • drainage • road pavements and surfacing • kerbs, channels and paved areas • traffic signals • street lighting and electrical works • sheet piling • dealing with contaminated ground conditions – excavation and disposal • utility diversion works • temporary traffic management systems involving traffic lane closures in an existing dual or single lane carriageway in an urban environment (mandatory).
