The Provision of Executive Coaching for Senior Managers (Principal Officers and Assistant Principal Officers in the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment

Published

Description

Arising from the work of a Cross Department Coaching Working Group, Executive Coaching was identified as a means of improving leadership capacity and capability, individual performance and strategic capability in the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment. The goal is to equip Senior Managers at Principal Officer and Assistant Principal Officer Level with the skills and supports necessary to meet the key business and leadership challenges facing the Department, the wider modern civil service and to support lasting change at an individual, organisational and civil service level. The initial focus of the programme will be for Principal Officers and Assistant Principal Officers. Establishment of a Panel of Coaches It is envisaged that a Coaching Panel of appropriately qualified and experienced Executive Coaches will be established. It is envisaged that the coaching panel will remain in place until end of 2025. However, the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment reserves the right to terminate the panel before then. Coaching will be rolled out as required from September 2022. Where a coach is placed on the Department’s panel of coaches, this does not imply any guarantee that they will be matched with a participant on the programme. The objective is to provide a structured framework to reflect on how best to develop the skills required to function successfully at that level. A detailed outline of a potential Coaching Framework is at Appendix 1A. The programme will focus on the following: • Enhance 2-3 aspects of their personal, interpersonal and leadership skills having regard to the PO/AP competency framework and organisation cross cutting objectives; • Strengthen participants’ skills in managing significant organisational change and leading teams through major changes as they apply to their role; • Agree and implement a plan of continuous personal performance improvement over subsequent years.
