Description

To further develop the skill sets of staff in Wirral schools in respect of general awareness for social, emotional mental health, in addition to ACES (adverse childhood experiences) awareness training and for schools to manage the behaviour of pupils from a trauma informed perspective. This will include general training for up to 5,000 staff as well as a more in depth pilot project to work with 20 schools to review and develop policies and practice with the aim of moving towards more relationship based approaches. The purpose of this pilot initiative is to encourage schools to be more inclusive so that vulnerable pupils are less likely to be excluded and / or moved to high cost specialist education options. Added value to make use of PG Cert Qualification in attachment & trauma for up to 15 staff who can provide continued training to schools as a sustainable model in the future. To maximise the opportunity of collaborative working across local authorities in partnership with Cheshire West and to create a wider HUB of expertise and knowledge that can be drawn up to further improve practices across the authority areas. Wirral as an authority area has current strong and developed links with the University Chester in relation to education and training in the health and social care sector, for example, Wirral Met College and nurse cadet pathways and social work practice programmes.
