Description

UHD is nearing completion of its clinical strategy to create the UK's largest elective hospital and a dedicated emergency hospital. This follows a £550m investment. Part of that investment is based upon significant growth in private patient work. Private Healthcare is offered at UHD but only represents a small fraction of the potential market share. The route to a sustainable competitive advantage is based upon UHD providing: • excellent facilities and excellent equipment, including a private patient unit • well trained, and motivated multidisciplinary teams • backup and support services, including for complex care • a new incentive structure that ringfences extra capacity for PP work, • a clear set of principles that align NHS and private, care for mutual benefit. This includes payers knowing that profits help the NHS Taken together, these create a significant, and unique opportunity to offer insured and self-paid patients something exceptional. What we are seeking is a partner who can bring the following attributes, to best achieve the opportunity: • evidence of successfully growing PP work within an NHS setting • evidence of working well with consultants • evidence of working well with consultants, insurers and self payors • Commitment to using the fair and transparent profit share formula Having reviewed options, this could be developed in-house. However the Board is open to a joint venture as a way of best achieving the opportunity. For this reason, a market testing exercise is being undertaken to find such a partner.
